We are so excited for the term ahead!
Continents Week - 2nd, 3rd and 4th of September
It was lovely to welcome the children back after their summer break and to see their eager faces ready to learn and start Year 3 off with motivation and excitement! During Continents week, we focussed on South America. We explored where South America lies on a map and identified different countries and their capitals within this continent. Our first few days were very DT orientated , where the children tasted different foods from South America and used this knowledge to design their own empanada, with the choice of peppers, onions, black beans, sweetcorn, cheese and with a side dip of salsa sauce. The children rose to the challenge and concentrated on the skills of cutting, making and rolling pastry, the end results were fantastic and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the tasting afterwards!
We also looked at Brazil and the carnivals the country is famous for, we used inspiration to design masks and outfits, creating a criteria to meet the requirements for such a celebration! The pupils designs were amazing - bright, frilly, sparkly and with lots of feathers! We used the masks to create a samba dance, learning to count to a samba beat and move to the rhythm! Overall, a great start to Year 3!
