Autumn 2
WB 8.12.25
This week Year 2 have begun their construction of their Victorian toys in DT, using paper mache to create a strong and sturdy frame. The children have also been exploring advent, discussing the meaning behind it and making advent wreaths. It was our last Forest School session this week, the children enjoyed hot chocolate, forest crafts, wreath making and planting bulbs - it has been a great experience for them all this half term and it has been delightful to watch the children flourish in an outside environment, interacting with each other and working as a team to complete activities.
WB 1.12.25
The festivities have begun in Year 2 this week, not only has it been Christmas jumper and dinner day, we have had a visit from the local Reverend to discuss the meaning of Christmas and how it plays an important role in religion. The children found the talk extremely interesting and asked some insightful questions. We have also visited Loganberry Lodge, the local care home, to perform our Christmas concert to the residents. The children sang with enthusiasm and the residents thoroughly enjoyed it! We also gifted them a handmade wreath, which was made during a Forest School session. The children have had a busy and successful week, they represented the school beautifully and should be proud of themselves!
WB 24.11.25
This week Year 2 have enjoyed Science day, carrying out investigations based on different materials and absorbency. They have also begun the design and skills stage in DT for creating a Victorian toy, using wheels and axels - their prototypes were amazing and we are looking forward to the final product being created. We have been practising our Christmas performance, it has been great to see the children's enthusiasm in rehearsals and we are looking forward to the show in December. Forest School was also extremely enjoyable this week, the children loved making fruit kebabs and toasting them over an open fire!
WB 17.11.25
Although the weather has turned decidely cold, it hasn't stopped Year 2 enjoying another Forest School session this week. They have been creating conker crafts, building dens, constructing hammocks and much more! It is fantastic to see them work as a team to achieve a goal and interact with one another. Also the 'Snow Queen' has visited the school this week, leaving a destructive mess of shards of ice and snow, the children were extremely excited to see the 'crime scene' and make predictions on reasons behind such chaos! We will be finding out more in our new Talk for Writing unit! In DT this week, the children have been looking at toy mechanisms, exploring how they move and the use of axels, ready for designing and constructing a Victorian toy in the coming weeks.
WB 10.11.25
This week Year 2 have begun their 'Forest School' sessions. The children were very excited to explore the wooded area and all the activities that will be available to them over the coming weeks. A firm favourite is already building dens, as well as tree climbing, nature crafts and bug hunting! It was lovely to observe the children in a different learning environment and watch them flourish amongst nature and with their peers.
WB 3.11.25
It has been great to welcome the children back after the half term break. We have begun our new topic of 'Queen Victoria', which the year group have thoroughly enjoyed so far. We have also been exploring what an emotion is in PSHE and different feelings we have, creating some beautiful 'Emotion Flowers'. This half term is also going to be extremely festive, we have begun by discussing the Nativity story and sequencing key events that happened in RE. Autumn 2 is going to be a very busy, but a very fun and exciting half term!
