PE Curriculum
At Stanway Fiveways, we strive to create a culture which aims to inspire an active generation to enjoy P.E. We provide a safe and supportive environment for the children to flourish in a range of different physical activities which is essential in supporting their physical, emotional, spiritual, social and moral development.
At Stanway Fiveways we offer a dynamic, varied and stimulating program of activity to ensure that all children progress physically through an inspirational, unique and fully inclusive P.E. curriculum. We encourage all children to develop their understanding of the way in which they can use their body, equipment and apparatus safely yet imaginatively to achieve their personal goal. All children have the opportunity to enjoy being physically active, maintain a healthy lifestyle, using the medium of sport and learning outdoors via forest school to increase their self- esteem. Our ultimate goal is for children to adopt a positive mind-set and believe that anything can be achieved with determination and resilience.
The aim of Physical education is to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles. At Stanway Fiveways, children are taught to observe and produce the conventions of fair play, being competitive and learning good sportsmanship. This is expected across all P.E. sessions, competitive after school clubs and external competitions with other schools. Thus embedding life-long values such as co-operation, collaboration and equity of play.
We provide opportunities for children to learn how to stay safe in a variety of sporting environments and outdoor play within forest schools, this involves creating outdoor fires, outdoor cooking, climbing trees and building dens. We provide a safety net in which children can learn to swim and play physical sports such as rugby through first class quality coaching with external and internal coaching. Finally, children are taught the safety regulations in diverse sports such as fencing, archery, squash and many more through external, specialist coaching.
Our P.E. curriculum, along with Forest school, PSHE and Science, teaches children about the importance of healthy living, learning and good nutrition. At Stanway Fiveways we aim for children to develop their necessary knowledge and skills which are to have a positive impact on all pupils life moving forward, which can be taken and used into the real world.
Professional Athlete Visit - Colchester United Player Tom Eastman
Tom Eastman visited our After School Football Club. Tom signed autographs on shirts, printed pictures, phone cases and boots. He then had individual pictures with the children before having a 30 minute kickabout, with every child given the opportunity to play on Tom's team, and against.
