Friday 27th March
There was lots of Easter fun this week to round off another busy term. Our hard-working P.T.A. organised another wonderful event for the children: an Easter bonnet competition! This was well supported by our parents who helped children create some wonderfully individual hats. The children loved parading in them and the P.T.A. provided an Easter egg for every child to take home!
We joined with the rest of the school for Art Day to celebrate and find out about the work of Andy Warhol. The children loved looking at his colourful artwork. In particular we looked at his Marilyn Monroe and Elvis works, talking about how he had made each repeating image slightly different. Then the children had a giggly time using paint, felt tips, crayons and highlighters to decorate their own photos! The results looked amazing and we used them to create our own art galleries in the classrooms. The children proudly showed them to their parents during this term's Open Afternoon.
After learning about the significance of Easter for Christians and how eggs represent new life, the children got to make their own Easter treats to take home. They worked in teams and shared the jobs to make chocolate nests, complete with eggs and a yellow chick!
Spring 2
Friday 20th March
Lots of special events this week! In celebration and recognition of our young carers the whole school took part in a Funky Socks Day. The children came in wearing a fabulous variety of mismatched socks and took part in some sock-themed activities.
This week saw another whole school initiative for Agents of Change. The children were thinking about showing gratitude and made some beautiful tissue paper flowers to give to the preschools who nurtured them so well. They were very excited to be leaving the school grounds and there was a warm welcome for them at the preschools.
On Friday all the children wore red in recognition of Red Nose Day.
Friday 13th March
In readiness for Mother's Day the children spent the week thinking about all the ways they love their Mummies. They thought carefully about what their Mummies look like and painted some wonderful portraits. Then they worked hard on writing a special message
Friday 6th March
This week in R.E. the children learned about Holi, the Hindu spring festival of colour. They loved finding out that this is often celebrated by throwing powder paint! In EYFS, we celebrated Holi by having a 'water fight', throwing coloured water balloons in our outside area. There was so much excitement and laughter!
This week also saw World Book Day and there were some wonderfully creative costumes! It was a great opportunity to find out more about everybody's favourite books. The school held The Big Book Swap so every child could take home a new book to discover.
As part of our learning about bees in Talk for Writing we were lucky enough to receive a visit from two experienced beed keepers. The children asked lots of questions and were fascinated to look at the parts of a bee hive and to see a bee keeper's costume.
Friday 27th February
This week there was lots of excited chatter and questions about the seasons as we began to enjoy some sunny moments! During one bright afternoon, we decided it was time to plant some bulbs and tidy up our plant area. There were lots of enthusiastic helpers and the children took turns using the trowels. Then it was time to learn about another festival; St. David's Day. The children enjoyed painting some daffodils and talked about other signs of spring they have spotted while out and about.
In English, the children have been learning about prepositions, in preparation for a new Talk for Writing focus on this. In maths they continued to learn about the composition of numbers, foscussing on understanding 6 - 9 as, "5 and a bit more".
