WB 23.6.25
Another successful week for Y2 childen at Fiveways.
This week has been art week. The theme is 'scuplture'. All 3 classes have been working in groups to create child sized plants using cardboard, papier-mâché and paint. They have worked together brilliantly and should be very proud of how their plants have turned out.
In maths, the children have continued learning how to tell the time. They are beginning to explore how to tell the time to 5 minute intervals. In DT, our cooking unit has been amazing. This week, the children had the oppurtunity to make the scones that they had designed. They then ate them in class at our very own cream tea event! The children thoroughly enjoyed this and their scones were absolutely delicious.
In English, the children have successfully written a suspense story. Their writing has improved dramatically over the course of the year and we are all very proud of them. Well done Y2!

Wow, week 3 of the summer 2 term already!
This week we had sports day! All of our children came into school determined to try their best and had the best day. We are so proud of their efforts and how well-behaved they all were on the day.
In English, the children have been preparing to write their own suspense tales. They have planned their stories and will begin writing them next week. We can’t wait to read them! In maths the children have continued to learn how to tell the time. They are growing in confidence daily which is always a joy to see.
Outdoor PE with the EPC coaches was another success. The children have been practising their athletics skills. In DT, the children have now designed the scones they want to make next week for their chosen person. They have taken their time to consider what their family members like and have designed the scones accordingly. They are going to be delicious!
Our science experiment is now complete. The children have written their conclusions and found out that the plant with both light and water grew the best.

Yet another great week in year 2!
Year 2 are enjoying our 'suspense' unit in English. We have begun learning what tools we will need to include in our writing to build suspense. We cannot wait to read their independent stories over the next few weeks. In maths, we have begun our 'time' unit. Soon, the children will be able to read times on a clock such as o'clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to.
This week, the children also practised making their scones for the first time. They were amazing. They were able to measure out the ingredients and work as a team to create a delicious batch of scones, well done! During indoor PE, the children were practising team and invasion games. The children had to work as a team to steal the other team's treasure using tactics such as speed and agility. They were incredible at this and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our plant investigation continues and we are very quickly realising that our plants that do not have both sunlight and water are not growing very well. I wonder if this will change throughout the coming weeks...
WB 2.6.25
This week, the children returned for their last half term in year 2 and what a great week it was!
In science, we are conducting yet another plant experiment - to see which plant grows the best given their conditions. The children have all made predictions and are excited to see what happens over the coming weeks. We have also begun our new Desing and Technology unit which focuses on food. The children will be learning how to make scones for an upcoming Cream Tea event. This week they enjoyed tasting both plain and fruit scones and a range of dried fruits to inspire them when they come to design their very own scones. We also had our 'PTA sponsored walk' event where the children walked a minimum of 10 laps around our field to raise money. Luckily, the sun was shining and we had a fabulous time. The ice lollies at the end were an added bonus!
In maths, the children have begun learning about position and direction and have spent lots of time learning outside the classsroom practising this. They have also enjoyed the start of our new English topic. The theme is suspense and the title of our new story is 'The Midnight Mystery.' Be sure to ask your children what it is about!
