This week, Year 6 enjoyed a visit from a Humanist, who shared his beliefs and what Humanism is like in everyday life. This really helped us to deepen our understanding of our Humanism unit of work. We also joined a Zoom call with lots of other schools to learn about an exciting new project called Skills Builder, all about the world of work. In addition, we worked in teams to create models showing the different layers of the Amazon rainforest. By the end of the week we were exhausted — and very happy for the weekend!

This week, Year 6 took part in an Internet Safety Workshop. The session included fun, engaging activities alongside really important messages about how to stay safe online. We learned  how AI can be used to create deepfakes and, importantly, how to spot online scams. It was a real eye-opener and helped everyone better understand how to use the internet safely and responsibly.

This week, we were visited by local children’s author Ian Hornett, who told us about how he became a writer and where he gets his ideas from. We also took part in an inspiring writing workshop, where we were encouraged to free write and not worry about grammar or spelling. This helped us to be creative, confident and enjoy writing even more.

This week we had EPC coaches come in to introduce our Netball teaching for the term. We focussed on passing skills; by the end of the session we were perfecting our chest, bounce and shoulder passes. We're now looking forward to building on these skills throughout the term so we can use them at the end of term in a Year 6 Netball match!

We have had a wonderful start to the new year, returning to a new term after the Christmas break. We kicked off with our New topic 'Brilliant Brazil' sampling samba music which got our toes tapping. We created a factfile about Brazil and learnt about the different biomes in Geography. We're really looking forward to learning more about the delights of Brazil, including it's culture, food and traditions.
