It has been another busy week in Year 6 as we reach midway through the term. In Forest School the children prepared apple and pear sticks over the fire and enjoyed lounging in hammocks! While in Science the children learnt about the different food groups. In English we worked together on compiling a Toolkit which will help us when we come to write our Warning Tale. While in DT we worked in groups of three to design our WW2 cam - for this we created an exploded diagram which showed clearly all the different parts to our design.

This week has seen us continue to develop our squash skills, where we played shots against the net using our back hand. We have also really enjoyed seeing your children's creations taken from the Homework Menu.

In English this week we completed an I am poem and a Spine poem before moving on to story mapping, which we really enjoyed. While in Maths we looked at comparing and rounding integers along with negative numbers. Meanwhile in PSHE we looked at all the factors which lead to a balanced diet.

Lots of fun was had at Forest School where the gambian fire was lit and children made wonderful things from the nature around them.

This week has seen us begin our Forest school sessions, where we had the opportunitiy to explore our wonderful outdoor learning area. We made hammocks, climbed trees and went on a hunt for bugs!

We also began our Squash sessions where we focussed on our raquet skills. This is the first step towards us making our way to the squash courts at The Garrison; which we're already really excited about.

In English we focussed on grammar including parts of a sentence including clauses and subordinate clauses, while in Maths we focussed on place value of numbers. In History we began our learning about World War 1,  exploring the reasons which led to the war and the countries which took part.

We have had a wonderful start to Year 6 enjoying Continents Week where we learnt all about .Asia. We really enjoyed discovering differrent water colour techniques before applying them to paint a cherry blossom.  We had fun making origami lotus flowers, which took a lot of concetnration but the outcome was worth it. We also learnt about the chinese number system alongwith carrying out research and producing a two page spread about The Great Wall of China.

It safe to say that we have settled really well in to Year 6 :)
