This week the children have enjoyed starting their new unit in Maths, looking at fractions using playdough to identify what a half looks like and applying this to demonstrating how to half a shape. We have also begun the innovation process of our 'Snow Queen' text, the children have thought of some great ideas in their plans, it will be fantastic to read their stories next week. In PE, we have been enjoying using the gym equipment, climbing the bars and travelling along beams. The children have also begun to look at different explorers in History; this week they went on a scavenger hunt, to identify Christopher Columbus and who he was! In Science, the children have been planting bulbs, placing them in different conditions to see which grow the quickest and staying on the theme of nature, in Art we are developing our sketching skills to create realistic pictures of flowers, considering the use of patterns to add texture.

What a wonderful day Year 2 had at Hyde Hall! We started the day with arts and crafts and explored the grounds. The sun was shining and the flowers were in bloom. The children enjoyed learning about nature and created leaf rubbings. We even planted sunflower seeds! During the afternoon, we collected beautiful, vibrant petals and produced our very own masterpieces. We also made nests for birds from foliage, the designs were amazing! The children all behaved impeccably and a great time was had by all!

What a week we have had! The children have got back into the swing of their learning and have started to explore the world of statistics in the form of tally charts, block diagrams and pictograms. We have started our new Talk 4 Writing narrative unit which involved a mysterious scene appearing outside of Rowan class on Friday! The children were very excited and soon realised that we had been visited by the Snow Queen!
Also this week, the children had PE with SCS where they learnt skills linked to the game of tennis; and they are continuing to develop their gymnastic skills in indoor PE. In computing, the children have started to code with Daisy. This linked nicely to our gymnastics unit as the children programmed Daisy to do spins, rolls and straight jumps in a sequence.
