Summer 1

WB 4.5.26

Although it has been a short week, due to the Bank Holiday, we have been busy in Year 2! The children have begun their fraction unit in Maths, where they have enjoyed using playdoh to create 'halves', as well as finding half of an amount. In English, we are beginning our new Talk for Writing unit, we have been discussing how sounds can create effect for the reader, discussing the emotions different noises create. The children produced an amazing class sound poem with their ideas.

WB 27.4.26

This week, Year 2 have enjoyed continuing their topic on 'Famous Explorers', they found themselves hunting around the school grounds where they found a time capsule! This caused great excitement and when they opened it, they discovered historical documents regarding the first landing on the moon! From this information, the children learnt about Neil Armstrong and have produced some fantastic fact files on him! In Maths, we have been reading and interpretting pictograms, which the children have enjoyed and in English we have begun writing our information texts on our mythical creatures, the ideas have been extremely creative and we are looking forward to seeing the end results!

WB 20.4.2026

This week we have begun to explore statistics in Maths, the children have shown a fantastic understanding, where they have created tally charts to record information, as well as reading and interpreting tables and answering questions relating to the data. We also created a human block diagram, during outside learning, exploring favourite colours within the class.

In Computing, we have been using the 'Daisy Dinosaur' App, to create algorithms for the character to follow and predicting where the dinosaur will end up on the screen. The children have loved this task and are showing a great aptitude for programming the dinosaur. In Art, we have been practising a variety of techniques to use when sketching, including smudging and combining colours using pastels.
