Year 4 have had another busy and productive week. In English, the children have started their new action narrative unit - The Time-Slip Scarab. This portal story features a young girl who goes to a musuem with her school is suddenly transported back to Ancient Egypt after she touches a scarab artefact.
In Maths, the children have finished their unit on decimals and money and will be moving onto time next week.
Within history, year 4 gained a better understanding of hieroglyphics and used the Anicent Egypt alphabet to decipher messages as well as write their names.
Cricket skills continued to be learnt in P.E with the children gaining confidence in bowling at a wicket as well as

This week in Year 4, the children continued to learn the skills of cricket in PE. This focus this week was bowling and hitting the ball in a straight line for others to intercept and field back.
In maths this week, the children have started to learn about the relationship between money and decimals. They have been converting pence into decimal value and vice versa. They are also understanding the place value of the pounds and pence and are starting to compare between the both.
It was independent write in English this week. The children independently chose a question to write a balanced argument on their specific question and topic.
In science, a further experiment was conducted to do with the digestive system. Children learnt how food is digested at each stage starting with chewing and the salivary glands, then it goes down into the stomach where stomach acid breaks the food down further before it moves onto the small and large intestines where the nutrition and water are absorbed.
During swimming lesson, the children did a combination of front and back stroke and swam the length of the pool.

The main topic of conversation throughout Year 4 this week was swimming lessons. As part of the national curriculum, Year 4 children undertake swimming lessons over the summer term. During their session this week, all the children were assessed to see which swimming group they would go in. All the children did amazing and it was lovely to see their confidence in the swimming pool.
In English, the children stepped out of the classroom and into Classroom Court to argue the debate of whether children in primary school should be given homework. The children were split into 'for' and 'against' groups and had to deliver their opinions on the subject. The children had extremely good points for both sides and it was determined that some homework is okay.
Teeth were the topic of conversation in Science as the children learnt about incisors, canines, pre-molars, molars and wisdom teeth. As part of this they got to understand the jobs of each tooth and conducted an experiment to see how each tooth could manage breaking up bread, celery and apple. The spoon represented a molar, fork was an incisor and the knife was a canine.

The summer term is here as is the blue sky and nicer weather that is starting to grace us with its presence.
This week in Year 4, the classes have been learning a new non-fiction unit in English on how to write a balanced argument. Children will be learning how to write a bias opinion, ensure both sides of the argument is presented, as well as how to add further information to support an opinion.
In Maths, the focus has been on decimals. Year 4 have been learning about tenths, hundredths, how to divide one and two-digit numbers by 10 and 100, so they become decimals and how to represent a number as a decimal and a fraction.
Over the summer term, Year 4 will be focusing on their topic of the Egyptians. This week, children were able to explore Egyptian artefacts including heiroglyphics, papyrus, and model pyramids and Egyptian Gods such as Anubis.
