Year 4 - Summer 2

Week beginning 30.6.25

This week, the children got the opportunity to watch the year 6's first dress rehearsal and they performed Madagascar. It was a fabulous show and the children really enjoyed singing 'Move it'.
We also had our last swimming session and the children showed off their different strokes and the lengths that they could swim. On Thursday, the children had transition morning and met their new teachers. Our Rock Steady band performed in their bands for the parents and year 4 were lucky enough to attend and support them.
In Science, children explored some different creatures and how they adapted to their environments. Acacia class began the cooking of their Egyptian flatbreads and the rest of the classes wll be following this coming week.
We also had a whole year group PE lesson practising our throwing skills for cricket in a carousel activity.

Week beginning 23.6.25

This week has been kicked off with assessments. The children worked really hard to show off all that they had learned this year.

Also, it was Art week with the theme of Sculpture! The children have explored the artist Wassily Kandinsky, who is known for his abstract art using shapes and lines to create geometric artwork. The children created an artist study in their books, tested out different ways to make the paper have a 3D effect inspired by Kandinsky's artwork and made a final individual piece and a whole class piece. It has been lovely to see the children get really created and be inspired by Kandinsky's work.

Week beginning 16.6.25

In maths, the children had a refresher week to recap lots of different concepts that have been taught over this year in readiness for the assessments. In whole class reading, the children explored how bubblegum was made and some myths about swallowing bubblegum! It doesn't stay in your stomach for 7 years - thankfully!
Thursday was a glorious day for the children with Sports Day being a huge highlight and the children participated in their events and cheered each other on, which was wonderful to see!

Week beginning 9.6.25

This week in maths, we explored the topic of shapes. The children discovered how many lines of symmetry different shapes. We even were lucky enough (with the weather!) to explore different regular and irregular shapes out of the classroom. In our Egyptian topic, the children created their own cartouches (an oval ring with their name in) using heiroglyphs on real papyrus paper. The oval ring signified eternity and protection in the Ancient Egyptian time period.

Week beginning 2.6.25

After returning from the half term break, Year 4 have hit the ground running. We have been trying to incorporate more lessons that are outside of the classrooms, which has been exciting for the children. The children matched definitions to the spelling words that had been put up around the Year 4 area for our spelling lesson. In PSHE, the children explored positive and negative beahviour and evaluated the effects that each might have on them and others. On Friday, the children enjoyed the Sponsorsed Walk, where the children completed at least 15 laps of the field. Thankfully the weather held out for us! Overall, a positive return to kick off the final half term.
