Geography
At Stanway Fiveways we believe Geography is essential to understand the world we live in. It helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. At Stanway Fiveways, we ensure the progressive development of geographical concepts, knowledge and skills and for the children to develop a love for geography. We are committed to providing children with opportunities to investigate and make enquiries about the surrounding area: so that they can develop of real sense of who they are; their heritage and what makes our local area unique and special.
We are developing the children’s ability to apply geographical skills to enable them to communicate their findings and geographical understanding to a range of audiences. We believe a well-rounded Geography curriculum will allow our pupils to gain confidence and experience that will help inform and shape their ideas; investigating human and physical strands of the subject. This will enable pupils to become global citizens and have the cultural literacy to be role models for the future and set a trail for others to emulate. Considering themes such as sustainability, development and climate change in their everyday lives.
Geography offers the opportunity to study a range of topics that investigate the physical processes of our planet, human societies and the economic and environmental challenges within the local, national and global context. This gives our children the confidence to interact with the wider world, leading to fulfilled and positive life experiences. The curriculum encourages students to ask questions, develop critical thinking skills, and layer a deeper understanding of complex concepts as the course navigates through the curriculum.
We intend to equip children with geographical skills to develop their knowledge through studying places, people and natural and human environments. This seeks to deepen the understanding of the Earth’s human and physical forms and processes. Geography, by nature, is an investigative subject. Through our teaching, we intend to provoke thought, ask questions and to encourage children to discover answers to their own questions through exploration and research to enable them to gain a greater understanding and knowledge of the world and their place in it.
In order to foster children’s curiosity about the world, interest and creativity, we are enthusiastic about Geography and encourage children to explore and ask questions.
