Young Carers

Stanway Fiveways Primary School is committed to develop provision for young carers and their families.
We honour this commitment by rigorously looking at ways to widen our provision, to build on our current offer to better meet the needs of the young people and by continuously reviewing the Stanway Fiveways Primary School plan for young carers, with a view to ultimately achieving best practice.
How we will achieve this:
- The whole school is committed to meeting the needs of young carers so that they can attend and enjoy school in the same way as other pupil / students and achieve their potential.
- By appointing a designated Young Carer Champion with responsibility for young carers and their families. Communicating the identify of this lead to Pupils and families along with details on how to contact them to access support.
- Ensuring school only shares information with professionals and agencies on a need to know basis in order to support pupils and their families.
- By actively seeking feedback and ideas from young carers and their families to shape and improve support.
- By ensuring school has an effective referral system and strong working partnership in place with relevant external agencies, including Young Carer agencies that are able to provide key workers to work with young carers and their families.
