Summer 2

Friday 27th June

It certainly has been summer this week and the children have shown how much they already know about kepping safe in the sun.  Water play outside has been especailly popular this week and some children have shown themselves to be budding engineers! They have worked together to build viaducts and water chutes and have spent the whole week tinkering with the design to improve it. Other children deicded that it was perfect weather for treating the dolls to a paddling pool and washing their clothes.

On Friday EYFS took part in Art Week. The theme was sculpture so we challenged them to use the skills they have learnt to make a model. We were very impressed with what they produced; we saw castles, cameras, octopus, and binoculars.

This week was Sports Day for the whole school. The EYFS children  were very excited to take part in their first ever school Sports Day. They joined with Key Stage One and had the extra excitement of wearing the colour of their House for the first time! They formed teams with other children in their house and it really helped them cement the idea that they are part of the whole school and have an important part to play in the life of the school. The children had practised for the events and having Mr Squirrel there really helped spur them on. We have talked a lot about sportsmanship and we were so proud to hear the children cheering each other on. It was a VERY hot day and the children coped so well and had lots of fun. After all the events they got to sit under the trees and have a well-deserved picnic with their families!

Friday 13th June

This week the children have enjoyed more cuddles with the ducklings and watched excitedly as they have grown and become more noisy!  We bid the ducklings a fond farewell as they were taken for their new life at Yarra Farm. However, it is not goodbye for ever, as we will visit them next month to see how they have grown and changed.

The fine weather has meant that we have noticed lots of new growth in our forest area and the children have had so much fun exploring new dens and using them to play collaboratively.
