Year 5 have had a vibrant and hands-on week exploring Mexican culture through a range of subjects. In Design and Technology, we have enjoyed making our own quesadillas, guacamole, and salsa—tasting our creations with tortilla chips and learning about the importance of fresh ingredients and food preparation. In Art, we showed creativity and colour as we designed our own Mexican sugar skulls, inspired by the Día de los Muertos tradition. Meanwhile, in English, we have begun writing our thrilling narratives, drawing on powerful language and suspense-building techniques to hook our readers. A fantastic cross-curricular celebration of culture and creativity!

We’ve had a fantastic week in Year 5, filled with hands-on learning and exciting discoveries!

At Forest School, we’ve been getting stuck into nature – building dens, learning outdoor skills, and enjoying the fresh air.

In Geography, we began exploring the amazing country of Mexico. We looked at maps to find mountains, deserts, and rainforests, and started learning about the country's rich culture and traditions.

Maths has been all about angles! We learned how to use protractors to measure and draw angles with accuracy.

In Science, we started a fun new investigation: growing beans! We’ve planted them carefully and are keeping a close eye on their growth. Each day, we observe any changes and record what we see. We’re learning what plants need to grow and thrive.

It’s been a brilliant week of learning, teamwork, and discovery. We can’t wait to see what’s next!

Welcome back, Year 5!

We hope you all had a wonderful Easter break and are feeling refreshed and ready for the summer term.

We have an exciting half term ahead, packed with fantastic learning opportunities! The children will be taking part in Forest School, enjoying dance sessions, and diving into Mexican culture through our Art and DT units. As part of our Food Technology focus, the children will even be making their very own Mexican dish!

In English, we’ll begin a thrilling narrative unit based on action stories, while in Maths, we’ll be exploring angles, shapes, and position and direction.

It’s set to be a fun and busy term, we can’t wait to get started!
