Autumn 2

Friday 12th December

EYFS were lucky enough to receive some new presents this week! The children were delighted with the new hoops for outside play, bought by our fantastic P.T.A.  The hoops have been a definite hit and have already been put to many imaginative different uses.

The children have been enjoying learning more about the Nativity story. They have been able to sequence the story and retell it. As the excitement for Christmas builds the children have been developing their fine motor skills and practising applying their phonics with festive-themed activities!

Friday 5th December

This week saw the culmination of all the children's hard work practising out Nativity!  The children were so excited to dress up in their costumes and perform their very first school Nativity to their families. We were so proud of how the children sang , said their lines and even danced! There were lots of smiles and confidence amongst our little performers and lots of proud parents!

This week was also our Christmas jumper day and our delicious Christmas lunch! Our kitchen staff worked so hard to provide a wonderful meal and the all our EYFS staff got to eat with the children.

Learning continued even during such an exciting week. The children love learning about number with the numberblocks and have been inspired by them during their self-chosen activities.

Friday 27th November

This week we have been busy really getting to know our story of The Little Red Hen through lots of enthusiastic  retelling with actions and great expression! The children were introduced to the story map which presents the tale in picture form. It is a Talk for Writing tool which enables children to practise the early reading skills of tracking from left to right and attaching meaning to images. They are very excited today to finish the week by taking a copy home to share with their families!

We have been further exploring  the story through lots of creative activities.

The sun shone for a little while during this cold week, enabling some well-wrapped up children to explore their shadows. They had lots of  fun drawing around each other's and comparing length.

We also had a road safety workshop this week, to which parents were invited. It was well attended and both adults and children had fun learning how to keep safe near roads through songs, actions and role play. "Stop, look, listen, think!"

Friday 21st November

This week EYFS joined with the rest of the school in celebrating the people around us on Positive Noticing Day. All children and adults in the school were given colourful luggage tags and encouraged to write to or draw something for another person telling them what is special about them. It was a veyr busy day with lots of visiting other classrooms to deliver the tags to the recipients. There were so many smiles as everyone enjoyed finding out what someone else thinks is special about them. Every child also went home with a personal tag written by their teacher.

This special day was used to launch Agents of Change in EYFS. This is a school-wide scheme which helps children learn that they have agency in the world and can make positive changes to themselves and others.

In Talk for Writing this term our text is the familar tale of The Little Red Hen.  After hearing the tale, the children enjoyed getting messy, making their own play dough and salt dough and having a go at kneading to better understand the text. Then they created some wornderful paintings of The Little Red Hen.

Friday 14th November

What a fantastic week we have had in Early Years!  This is a special week as we got ready for a party for Pudsey!  As part of our learning about celebrations, the children thought about birthdays and any parties they have been to. Then they shared their ideas of what we need to do to get ready for a party to celebrate Pudsey Bear's 5th birthday. The children made wrapping paper by printing repeating patterns of Pudsey's bandana spots. Then they used this to wrap present for Pudsey. They made their own sandwiches for party food and wrote invitations to each other and cards for Pudsey. At the end of the week we decorated the hall and played some party games then sat down together to enjoy a party feast and ....there was even an appearance by Pudsey Bear himself! What a week!
