Welcome back, Year 4, for Autumn 2!
This week we have been very busy starting our new topics. In Maths, we are exploring multiplication and the area of shapes. During PE, the children enjoyed their first dance session, working well together in teams to learn and perform sequences. In Computing, they explored animation and created their own handmade animations, which they really enjoyed. We also introduced our new Class Dojo system the children have been excited to earn house points in lots of different ways! In Science, we have been investigating sound around the school, discovering how it travels and changes in different places.

We started the week by wearing odd socks in support of Anti-Bullying Week. The children arrived in their brightest, funkiest combinations, proudly showing off their individuality. Throughout the week, Year 4 continued their work on multiplication, with a strong focus on mastery. The children explored pictorial methods, using arrays to represent number sentences and deepen their understanding. In PE, we built on our dance routines by adding new steps and developing our hockey skills, including dribbling, passing, and maintaining control of the ball. We ended the week with a wonderful celebration of Children in Need. The children dressed up for the cause and enthusiastically joined in with challenges set by Joe Wicks.

Well done, Year 4, for an excellent week of learning and participation!

This week, the children continued to build on their learning across the curriculum. In PE, they learned new steps and skills for their Hip Hop–themed dance, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Throughout this half term, many children took part in our Shoe Box Appeal and were awarded an Agents of Change stamp for their wonderful contributions, it has been lovely to see how much they embraced this opportunity to help others. In Computing, the children also had great fun creating a short scene for our animation project, showing fantastic creativity and enthusiasm.

This week has been a busy and exciting one for Year 4. In PE, the children took part in Basketball sessions led by the EPC coaches, focusing on key skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and teamwork. The coaches were extremely impressed, noting how confidently the children demonstrated and recalled everything they had learned. We also have a special announcement to celebrate, one of our pupils, as part of their Agents of Change project, wrote to the local MP to share their views on processed food and proudly received a signed response. Well done! In addition, a group of children from Years 3 and 4 were selected to try out a new sport called Roundnet, which they thoroughly enjoyed experiencing for the first time.

This week has been a busy and exciting one for Year 4. The children watched a pantomime performance of Beauty and the Beast, which they absolutely loved and enthusiastically got involved in. We also enjoyed our Christmas Dinner Day, thank you to the Lunch Team for organising such a brilliant meal! The children came dressed in their Christmas jumpers, made Christmas cards, and took part in festive activities throughout the day, including singing their favourite songs. We continued our learning by designing our own Christmas baubles for our DT cross-stitching project. In dance, the children had the chance to use all the skills they’ve learned to independently create a routine, which they will be practising before the reveal. Well done, Year 4!

Year 4 had an exciting and memorable trip to Colchester Castle, where they immersed themselves in the world of the Romans. The children explored the fascinating museum exhibits, uncovering stories and artefacts from Roman Britain, and took part in hands-on workshops that brought history to life. They worked together to build their own Roman villa and enjoyed an engaging talk about the Romans and the Celts, discovering how these two cultures lived, fought, and influenced each other. Back at school, we got started on building our own Roman catapults, learning new skills and showing brilliant teamwork. We also had the pleasure of joining Year 1 to watch their wonderful nativity performance, which brought plenty of smiles and festive cheer. It has been a fantastic, fun-filled week!
