Governors Statement 2024
The Governors of Stanway Fiveways Primary school are committed to making sure that every child has the opportunity and support to ‘be the best that they can be’.
We are a group of 12 volunteers from parents, staff and the community who have professional skills and experience to help the school realise it’s vision to create a safe, happy and supportive environment in which each individual feels valued and respected, where true potential is recognised, high expectations are fulfilled, and personal achievements celebrated.
As a group, the Governing Body prides itself on its collaborative and collective approach to our work. We work strongly as a team and provide effective challenge to the school though a constructive and supportive relationship with the Headteacher and the leadership team.
This is our approach to carrying out our three core functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding Headteacher and leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
The Governing Body is organised to fulfil these functions through our committee and panel structure, our annual monitoring and visit schedule, by making sure the school is compliant with legislation and that up to date and effective policies are in place.
We meet twice a term as a Governing Body and whenever it is deemed necessary, form working groups to consider specific issues. These groups then report back to the full governing body. Signed and approved minutes for our meetings are available on request from the school office.
All governors have specific lead roles such as English, Maths, SEND and Health and Safety for example and monitor these areas each term by coming into school, talking to staff and children, visiting classrooms and touring the school. We have a schedule of monitoring and evaluation visit dates to organise our work throughout the school year.
Each term we publish a Newsletter to parents and staff to inform them of what the Governors have been doing so we can show how we carry out our role and demonstrate the impact this is having on standards and progress.
We very much value and welcome the commitment of parents in supporting the school and ultimately their child. We are very proud of the progress the school is making and are looking forward to the opportunities our expanding school will bring to our children and staff.
