WB 22.9.25

This week Year 2 have been continuing exploring the key events of the 'Great Fire of London' and how the plague doctors protected themselves. In Maths we have explored flexible partitioning of numbers, which the children have enjoyed and shown a great aptitude for. We are continuing our 'Zig the Alien' story in English; the children have been thoroughly enjoying the unit, practising the story map daily and building upon the toolkit for their innovative text next week. We have also carried on exploring how light plays a role in different religions, this week we have looked at the Jewish religion, discussing the symbolism of a Menorah candle and creating our own through a variety of materials. This has also linked to our Art, where we have explored properties of different materials and how they can be used to create an effective collage.

WB 15.9.25

It has been another busy week in Year 2. The children have enjoyed using part-part-whole models in Maths and they have been extremely excited to start our Talk for Writing unit on 'Zig the Alien', where we have even seen sightings of an unidentified object, which excited the children no end! They have been fantastic learning the story and we are looking forward to developing their creative ideas within their writing! In RE this week, we have continued our unit on how light plays an important role in religion, we focussed on Christianity this week, where the children were taught the symbolism of a Christingle, even making their own in pairs, which was great fun! Our 'Great Fire of London' topic is underway, the year group have looked at the role of plague doctors and even used an image of themselves to dress up in the attire!

WB 1.9.25 and 8.9.25

It has been a pleasure to welcome the children back after the summer holiday. Last week, we enjoyed getting to know the children and base our learning for 'Continents Week' around North America. Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed learning about different cultures within the continent, experiencing food tasting, making pasta jewellery, which represented a country, as well as making a strong, stable bridges based on the 'Golden Gate Bridge'. The children worked fantastically in their groups, sharing ideas and working out how to improve their designs.

This week we have begun our 'Place Value' unit in Maths, adding on 10 up to 100, which the children have done extremely well. We have also been focussing on grammar lessons, looking at punctuation within sentences, as well as the use of conjunctions to join two ideas. Year 2 have also begun their Great Fire of London topic, which they are excited to learn about, singing songs relating to it too. Overall a great start to the academic year!
