Headteacher's Welcome
On behalf of everyone at Stanway Fiveways Primary School, I would like to begin by warmly welcoming you to our school.
At Stanway Fiveways we want every child to become confident, independent learners who achieve the very best that they possibly can, in a happy, safe and enjoyable environment. As a school we believe that it is essential to work in close partnership with our families so that we really get to know and understand each individual child.
I firmly believe that children learn best when they are enjoying what they are learning and feel happy and secure in their learning environment. Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all of our pupils; at the heart of our curriculum is our belief in curiosity, diversity and aspiration for all and we pay great attention to the development of the whole child. We place a real emphasis on ensuring that we support pupils’ personal development and welfare as well as their academic progress.
We know that it is essential for children to master the fundamental skills of reading, writing and mathematics. These start with firm foundations established in the Early Years and are developed through Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 so that by the end of their time with us the children join secondary school with a key grasp of these skills. This is achieved by ensuring that every child is constantly challenged and successful, from their own starting points.
To prepare children for the future, we also think it vitally important that they develop independent learning skills. We want children to understand that making mistakes is part of learning. They are encouraged to celebrate what they can do well, but also identify what they need to do next. From their earliest years, opportunities are given for pupils to work collaboratively and to undertake tasks independently; this helps them to become creative and resilient learners.
At Stanway Fiveways we believe in Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC), with a focus on making the most of opportunities for outdoor learning, and the enormous benefits this has for all of our children. Outdoor learning is not a subject or topic; it’s a powerful way of teaching that is utilised across the whole curriculum. Our children regularly take their learning outside, as well as participating in Forest School sessions.
Finally, we place a real emphasis on ensuring we provide all of our children with a wide range of opportunities, that not only further develop their curriculum knowledge but also increase their life experiences and provide them with life-long memories.
We look forward to welcoming you to our happy, vibrant and dynamic school.
Kindest Regards,
Adam Squirrell
